Travel Trends - Close-In, Social, Leisure Travel Intentions and Business Travel Intentions in a Recession

Business travel continues its slow recovery with more than one in seven (15%) adults planning at least one business trip during the next six months, up from 13% from one year earlier. The travelhorizonsTM survey results were obtained from a nationally representative sample of 2,251 U.S. households conducted February 2-12, 2010.

Of the estimate 127,000,000 U.S. active travelers, half (50%) expect to spend the same amount of money on leisure travel services as they did last year. One quarter (24%) expect to "spend more" on those trips and one quarter (26%) plan to "spend less".

The data suggest that social, leisure travelers will continue to demand excellent value for their travel dollars this coming summer and are likely to be responsive to new promotional incentives such as "flash sales".
