B&B Bootcamp

The Elizabeth Pointe Lodge, an oceanfront B&B on Amelia Island, Florida, is a working classroom! It provides the ideal way to get an idea of what it's like to really run an inn.

Who's that working behind the Front Desk... it looks like my neighbor! Guests checking in at the 25-room Elizabeth Pointe Lodge on historic Amelia Island may very well be greeted by someone they know. Innkeeper apprentices work all job positions at the inn in anticipation of making a career change to the innkeeping profession.

Should you decide to take part, you will begin a typical morning at 6 am in the kitchen with the inn's baker. Working through breakfast service you'll move on to Housekeeping in the afternoon. That evening be prepared to work the Night Audit shift learning lodging revenue reporting, posting and operating report processes.

Bright and early the next morning you get to test a recipe or two and then graduate to the Front Desk for training in reservations, check in/out and guest services. A second visit to Night Audit is optional.

On the final day, you'll work the Laundry, be introduced to Bookkeeping, learn where and how purchases for the inn are made and discuss maintenance items with the owner. Then it's time for review and brush up on any area where more information is desired.

"The award-winning Elizabeth Pointe Lodge, on Amelia Island in northeast Florida, is home to Lodging Resources Workshop's B&B Bootcamp, run by innkeepers David and Susan Caples. Using the lodge as a working classroom, aspiring innkeepers are taught the basics of the business in weekend seminars and an apprenticeship program. Participants work a variety of positions throughout the inn, with a typical day starting at 6 a.m. in the kitchen baking the day's bread, and finishing up on the night shift learning to keep the books. Hardworking proteges graduate with all the basic skills they need to start their own first-rate B&B."

Is It For Me?

The apprenticeship is an intensive program designed for aspiring innkeepers whose current career doesn't allow for an extended on-the-job training program. It's a great way to determine if innkeeping is the right career change for you!

Ready To Open An Inn?

Many new innkeepers attend our apprenticeship just before opening their inn. It's a great opportunity to plan out their own operational systems.
